Palma de Mallorca is located in the southwest of Mallorca and is the main hub of the island. The city was founded by the Romans and has an interesting architecture thanks to the mixture of Bizantine, Moorish and Christian elements. Today, it is one of the preferred tourist destinations in Europe and attracts not only countless travellers, but also many workers from mainland Spain and from abroad.

How long?

You can visit Palma’s most important attractions in one day, but it is good to allow for more time to relax and enjoy the sightseeing and the many good options for eating, drinking and partying with friends.

Where?

Most attractions are located in the old city, a maze of narrow streets as crowded during the day as quiet during the night. The unmissable sights are La Seu (the cathedral), the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, the Banys Arabs and the Jardins de Marivent, the latter just outside the city centre. In addition, you can go for a stroll along the Paseo Maritimo, the Passeig del Born and the Carrer del Moll, which is a good option for a drink with sea view. You can also stop by Plaça Major and Plaça d’Espanya, explore the district of Santa Catalina and take a ride on the Ferrocarril de Sóller, a railway dating back to 1911. And do not forget to do some shopping before going back home, especially if you like (artificial) pearls!

La Seu
The cathedral, which is called La Seu, is one of the main sights of the city. It was built on a previous mosque, which in turn was built on a previous Christian church. You would be surprised to see how modern part of the interior design is!

The Royal Palace of La Almudaina
Together with the cathedral, this is another highlight of a walking tour in the old city. You can visit both the interior and exterior of the building, which includes also a small church. Do you prefer it by day or by night?

The Banys Arabs
These are one of the few remnants of the Moorish past of the city. You have to go through a daedalus of streets to find them, but they offer a very nice sight. After the visit, you can enjoy some free time in the adjacent garden.

The Jardins de Marivent
Located just outside the city centre, these gardens are a good option for a refreshing break! You would need a bus or a car to go there.
